LIPOSOMAL GINGER & TURMERIC

Two roots, studied for anti-inflammatory action.

Ginger and turmeric are two of the most celebrated roots in the history of natural medicine — and two of the most researched. ULTIMATE brings both into the balm in liposomal form.

Ginger brings its warming gingerols and shogaols. Turmeric brings curcumin, the golden polyphenol behind one of the largest bodies of botanical research in the world. Our liposomal curcumin is EffePharm’s LipoAvail®, which in the manufacturer’s own oral studies showed up to 107.5 times the relative bioavailability of regular curcumin.

Ginger — warmth with serious research behind it

Ginger’s unmistakable warmth comes from its pungent gingerols and shogaols — and those same compounds sit behind an impressive body of human research.

In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicentre trial, 247 people with knee osteoarthritis took a standardised ginger extract or placebo for six weeks. The ginger group showed a greater reduction in knee pain on standing.

Ginger has been studied after hard exercise too. In a randomised study, daily ginger reduced the muscle pain caused by eccentric exercise.

Less muscle pain after eccentric exercise.

Ginger on the skin

Australian nurse researcher Tessa Therkleson has studied ginger applied topically — as warm compresses and patches — in adults with osteoarthritis. Participants reported meaningful improvements in pain, stiffness and overall wellbeing.

Turmeric — the golden polyphenol

Curcumin gives turmeric its brilliant gold colour and has become one of the most researched plant compounds in modern science.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised clinical trials found turmeric extracts and curcumin significantly reduced arthritis-related pain scores compared with placebo.

Inside the joint, curcumin has been studied directly in human articular chondrocytes, where it inhibited IL-1β-induced NF-κB-mediated inflammation and protected the cells — with even stronger chondroprotective effects when combined with resveratrol, the grape-skin polyphenol.

Why liposomal curcumin

Curcumin’s great challenge has always been bioavailability: it is poorly soluble in water and, taken by mouth, only a small fraction of ordinary curcumin reaches the bloodstream.

ULTIMATE’s liposomal turmeric comes from EffePharm, whose liposomal curcumin is marketed as LipoAvail®. In EffePharm’s own oral bioavailability studies, LipoAvail® showed:

UP TO 107.5 TIMES THE RELATIVE BIOAVAILABILITY OF REGULAR CURCUMIN

EffePharm reports this as total exposure (AUC) after oral intake compared with standard curcumin, using liposomes of around 42 nm carrying 50% curcuminoids.

Two roots, one warming partnership

Ginger and turmeric are close botanical relatives in the Zingiberaceae family. Together they add warmth, colour and two of nature’s most researched families of compounds to ULTIMATE — alongside mangosteen, pomegranate and the formula’s antioxidant superfruits.

Technical evidence map

CannonBalm materials — liposomal ginger extract (gingerols) and LipoAvail® liposomal curcumin, both in ULTIMATE.

Ginger — 247-person randomised knee-OA trial: reduced knee pain on standing; randomised study: reduced exercise-induced muscle pain; topical ginger compress/patch study in OA.

Turmeric — meta-analysis of randomised trials: reduced arthritis pain scores versus placebo; curcumin inhibited NF-κB-mediated inflammation in human chondrocytes.

Supplier data — LipoAvail®: up to 107.5× relative oral bioavailability (AUC) versus regular curcumin in EffePharm’s studies.
